Most of which are easy walking distance away. Add to that the great cafes and restaurants in the area, easy access to regular buses and Christchurch’s largest Westfield mall just down the road. This gives you the perfect location to stay for either business or pleasure. You can do perfect day trips from Christchurch to locations such as Hanmer Springs, Akaroa, Kaikoura, Tekapo and even the Tranz Apline train ride to Greymouth and back.

As the Botanic Gardens is a museum with a living collection, our displays and plants are always changing, depending on the time of year you visit. With a variety of gardens and collections over 21 hectares, the endless array of plants and flowers will activate all of your senses all year round. The Gardens are home to an impressive collection of exotic and local flora and fauna from New Zealand and around the globe. With over 1 million visitors a year, the Botanic Gardens are not to be missed during your visit to the Garden City.

Quake City

Learn how the seismic events of 2010 and 2011 affected Canterbury and how locals adapted to the tough times that followed. See taonga (treasures) rescued from the rubble and discover the science behind the earthquakes. Quake City features hands-on interactives, videos and treasures rescued from the rubble after the earthquakes. Collectively, the exhibits tell stories of hope and courage from the Canterbury Earthquakes.
